Clutter catcher!
Could this be what you were looking for?
One of the benefits of modern computing practices is the ability to
locate information in moments. It is entirely possible that you have files
on your computer dating as far back as late 1981. Is that a benefit?
Probably not, but the question of what to toss and what to keep is just
complicated enough that "keep it all" becomes the default solution.
CD-R and CD-RW may provide a solution. With a shelf life of 100 years
and a capacity in excess of 650MB, you can save those old tax returns,
spreadsheets, precious emails, Kodak moments with the dog and anything
else that is crowding your hard drive and slowing your PC down.
If, and that's really a big IF in most cases, you ever need access to
them, they are easily stored and quickly searched.
Another familiar use for CD-R is to mix your own music CD's. Many albums,
perhaps most, have a selection or two that aren't music to your ears and
many fall short of full. Why not mix your own CD for the car without the
"dogs".
And here's one more idea that was prompted by the availability of a friends
8-track tape player. After he removed it from an old car and hooked up
a 12-volt power supply, we cut some CD's.
Janis Joplin lives again, but this time on a CD. It might be a good idea
to do the same with some old 33 1/3 rpm albums stored in the basement.
(Hey, that could be a good anniversary gift!)
